The Honolulu Food Policy Council is inviting community members to get involved in taking responsibility for our food system! Hooray! I am excited to meet all who attend and discuss the progressions and road blocks in creating a better food system in Honolulu. Currently, we import 85% of our food and if it can travel such long distances by boat, you best believe those foods are riddled with preservatives (either petroleum and/or GMO based). Yes, there are over a million of us in the state of Hawai’i but researchers argue that the height of population in Pre-Contact Hawai’i was between 300,000-1,000,000. They were able to live sustainably through the practice of Ahupua’a.
‘Bout time we started putting our coconuts together to start rethinking our food systems. If you eat your voice matters! Come one and all!
